Francis H. Thole Essay Contest



Once again, we are pleased to announce Francis H. Thole Essay Contest sponsored by the Board of Directors of City Trusts. Please share this announcement with all English Teachers and High School Guidance Counselors. All high school seniors are encouraged to write an essay on the Constitution of the United States of America. A cash prize will be award to one student at each high school that participates.

· Students may select any aspect of the US Constitution as the basis of their essay

· Essays should be no fewer than 800 and no more than 1200 words in length

Once the Board of City Trusts has determined winner, please send a letter on school letterhead with the name, address and home telephone number of the student chosen by your school, along with a copy of the essay, to:

2018 Cecila Moy Yep Scholarship


The Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 by the Asian American Women’s Coalition to recognize female Asian American high school students who have made a positive and lasting impact on our local community through their service and leadership. The scholarship will help finance post-high school education. Multiple scholarships are awarded each year in varying amounts.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

· Asian American Female high school senior graduating in May/June 2018.

· A resident of Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, or Bucks counties.

· Demonstrate financial need.

· Participate in community service and extracurricular activities.

· Minimum of 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

· Start college/university in Summer 2018 or Fall 2018.

Send or email the following documents to AAWC postmarked by March 5, 2018, 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

You must submit all of the items listed below to complete your application packet:

· Completed application along with your personal statement.

· High School Transcript

· One recommendation from a teacher or community leader. A second recommendation is optional.

· FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Student Aid Report or CSS Profile. If applicable, cross out any Social Security numbers on these forms.

The Scholarship Selection Committee will contact applicants they wish to interview in April 2018. The interview will be in person on a Saturday in Philadelphia. You will be asked to provide us with the financial aid award letter for the college/university that you plan to attend.

If selected to receive a scholarship, you MUST attend the AAWC Scholarship banquet on Friday, April 27, 2018 to receive your award.
